Joseph Caylor… This small former state park in Southern Georgia is not only a memorial to the only president in the Confederate States of America's short life, but it's also a decisive
turning point in American history. Here, at this site on May 9th 1865 Jefferson Davis was captured after attempting to flee to reunite forces in the west, namely Texas, to continue fighting the American Civil War. This was over a month after Appomattox and signaled the last major event in the bloodiest and most violent time in our country's history. This is a place that shouldn't be overlooked, and the story of the flight of Jefferson Davis in and of itself, while his country disintegrated around him, is worth coming down and visiting this site if you are in South Georgia.
